Very good when used for class pitched at compatible level
I have used the trade portion of this book twice. It contains many up-to-date discussions of topics that are not covered well in other texts. For example, Rob Feenstra has crafted a nice treatment of the monopolistic competition model, which is accessible and which seques nicely into empirical studies of gains from trade liberalization. Other texts either use difficult to follow graphs or load the chapter up with lots of models, often confusing students at this level. The applications are all recent and quite interesting, even if I feel some "stories" are polished a bit too much to fit the theoretical model.

This book is best used for students who have only limited economics training, including masters level classes that require masters (intermediate essentially) micro as a prerequisite. The book pairs nicely with empirical studies and policy pieces to fill out a course. You will definitely need more material on the GATT and the WTO, but these are easy to find.

An important feature to note is that the trade section is currently available AS A SEPARATE SOFT COVER text. This version is less expensive and less bulky than the full (micro and macro) text.

The publisher plans to provide full powerpoint slides for teaching. Only a few chapters are currently available. The student workbook, prepared by Steve Yeaple, is very good and I recommend it to any student looking for more practice with problems.
