Lightweight
Far and away my strongest opinion about this book has to do with the opportunity cost of using it. In general, a class structured around this text tends to have an inflexible schedule and a slow pace (about a chapter a week). This is especially true in a large university setting where the experiments take place in discussion sections spread over several days in the week. The experiments themselves are a mixed bag... some entertaining but light on educational value (2, 4), some pedagogically successful but boring (3), some clumsy (11), some both fun and useful for teaching/discussion (7, 8).
